Roy Jones Jr. has a different idea for Shakur Stevenson’s next fight.
Talks between Stevenson and Devin Haney fell apart again over weight. Haney offered a 145-pound catchweight, and Stevenson said he would accept it without a rehydration clause, but the fight still didn’t come together.
Jones told All The Smoke Fight that Haney shouldn’t be dropping below 147 pounds.
Shakur, I know what you’re saying. You feel like you don’t want to go that big because you’re not that big. But you got to find somebody. Go find, get Tank [to] come back and fight.
You can’t fight Devin because Devin shouldn’t come below 147. So go fight Tank or somebody that can make 140.
Stevenson vs. Gervonta Davis has long been one of boxing’s most wanted fights. Stevenson has since moved to 140 pounds, where he took the WBO title from Teofimo Lopez in January.
Davis has been named WBA lightweight champion in recess due to inactivity and has dealt with legal issues outside the ring. He is reportedly targeting a return in 2027, with George Kambosos Jr. named as a possible opponent.
Stevenson is now a free agent after leaving Zuffa Boxing. He has also explained what nixed the Haney fight before.
