Filip Hrgovic isn’t impressed by Daniel Dubois’ WBO title.
The IBF heavyweight champion told Ariel Helwani that Dubois’ title doesn’t mean much because of who he took it from.
He’s fake champion because he beat fake champion Fabio Wardley. Fabio Wardley shouldn’t [have won] against Parker, he was losing the fight and I think it was big robbery, so he was fake champion. When you beat fake champion, you’re fake champion as well.
Wardley was elevated from interim to full WBO champion after Oleksandr Usyk vacated, following his 11th-round stoppage of Joseph Parker. Dubois took the belt from Wardley by 11th-round stoppage in May, then stopped him in the second round of their rematch earlier this month.
Hrgovic wants Dubois next year in a unification fight. Dubois beat him by eighth-round stoppage due to cuts in June 2024, but Hrgovic says he wasn’t himself that night.
I think I will destroy him. Even in that first fight… like I said, I was sick, seven days before the fight, I couldn’t walk. I was in my bed.
I was [also] cut in sparring; I lost a few weeks of sparring. I was all over the place; I underestimated him. I thought it was going to be easy night for me.
Hrgovic won the vacant IBF title by stopping Moses Itauma in the ninth round in August. In the same interview, he said Anthony Joshua should retire.
