What Shakur Stevenson Says Nixed The Devin Haney Fight

Shakur Stevenson says talks for a fight with Devin Haney fell apart over weight.

Stevenson made the claim in a post on X, blaming a late demand from Haney’s camp.

At the 11th hour, after agreeing to 144 and then 145, Dee—- had his lawyer email and say that he would only fight at 147. Big waste of everybody’s time.

Stevenson had pushed for a 144-pound catchweight with a rehydration clause. In early October, Haney told Stevenson to drop the clause and fight at 147.

They later agreed publicly to a 145-pound catchweight. The Ring’s Mike Coppinger said money was the main hold-up at that stage but believed the fight would get done.

Haney disputed Stevenson’s account in a reply on X.

I agreed to 145 u went missing for days. Tried to put a rehydration clause on me. I wasted 6 months negotiating with you..

Stevenson, 29, holds the WBO junior welterweight title. He won it with a unanimous decision over Teofimo Lopez on January 31 at Madison Square Garden. He signed a multi-fight deal with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing in July.

Haney, 27, holds the WBO welterweight title. He has not fought since beating Brian Norman Jr. by unanimous decision in Riyadh last November.
