Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson reignited their rivalry on social media Sunday, but Haney says nothing is signed and wants Stevenson to drop the rehydration clause from the proposed contract, Boxing News reported.
Haney, who won the WBO welterweight title from Brian Norman Jr. last November, posted an AI-generated face-off with Stevenson on Instagram. Stevenson replied by tagging him on X with a short let’s go message, pulling fans back toward a fight that had gone quiet for a few weeks.
Haney then made clear he doesn’t consider it done. He told Stevenson to “stop the games,” asked whether he has signed a contract, and urged him: “Let go of this rehydration clause.” In a follow-up reply, Haney pressed the same point and told Stevenson to drop the clause.
Stevenson appears to have agreed to fight at welterweight, according to Boxing News. His earlier demand was a 144-pound catchweight, while Haney insisted on a full 147-pound bout. Haney seemed to accept the catchweight at one stage, but both fighters were later linked to other fights and talks appeared to collapse.
Stevenson’s next move has been unclear. Dana White denied that a Stevenson fight with Manny Pacquiao was ever planned, and Gary Antuanne Russell has since received an offer to unify titles with him. Tim Bradley recently accused Stevenson of passing on big fights, pointing to the Haney catchweight bout that never came together.
Neither fighter has been back in the ring. Stevenson took Teofimo Lopez’s WBO super lightweight belt in January and has not fought since, despite signing with Zuffa Boxing. Haney has been inactive since beating Norman. His options are not limited to Stevenson either, with Ryan Garcia saying he would rather rematch Gervonta Davis than face him.
