Shakur Stevenson's Next Fight Faces New Hurdle

Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson have settled on a weight. Now the hang-up is money.

The two sides publicly agreed to a 145-pound catchweight last week after talks stalled earlier in the year. Haney wanted to stay at welterweight, while Stevenson pushed for a catchweight and a rehydration clause. The agreement made no mention of a rehydration clause, which had been a major sticking point for Haney’s team.

Haney’s father and trainer, Bill Haney, recently suggested Stevenson’s side had gone quiet. The Ring’s Mike Coppinger then explained on X what is holding things up.

Money mostly but I believe it will get done.

Bill Haney had previously floated Nov. 28 in Atlanta as a possible date. That now looks unlikely.

Haney holds the WBO welterweight title after dropping and outpointing Brian Norman Jr. last November. He has not fought since. Stevenson won the WBO super lightweight title by beating Teofimo Lopez in his only fight at 140 pounds. The catchweight would mean another five-pound jump for Stevenson.
