Bob Arum's Blunt Take on Mayweather vs. Garcia

Bob Arum believes Ryan Garcia vs. Floyd Mayweather would make money but draw only limited interest as a fight between a young champion and an old man.

Bob Arum isn’t buying the hype around Floyd Mayweather vs. Ryan Garcia.

Garcia recently claimed on X that he and Mayweather agreed to fight for his WBC welterweight title. The Top Rank promoter told Fight Hub TV he has doubts about how big it would be.

Will people be interested in it? I don’t know. I know Floyd [allegedly] needs the money, because he’s p—-d away tons of the money that he made.

Will Garcia-Mayweather generate money? Yes. Will it generate enough money to satisfy these guys? I don’t know.

I think there’ll be limited interest in a fight where you have a young guy, at the peak of his powers and boxing prowess, fighting an old man.

Garcia, 28, won the WBC title with a unanimous decision over Mario Barrios earlier this year. He stopped Conor Benn in the second round last month in his first defense. That run followed a decision loss to Rolando Romero in May 2025, Garcia’s first fight back from a year-long suspension.

Mayweather, 49, hasn’t fought professionally since beating Conor McGregor in 2017. He also faces a multi-million dollar lawsuit from CSI Sports over planned bouts with Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao.

Not everyone shares Arum’s view. Eddie Hearn believes the fight is on and picks Mayweather to win, while Terence Crawford mocked Garcia for the callout.
