Amir Khan: Floyd Mayweather 'Would Still Give Ryan Garcia Problems'

Amir Khan thinks Floyd Mayweather could still trouble Ryan Garcia. He just doesn’t think Garcia should take the fight.

Mayweather, 49, has been linked to a professional bout with Garcia. Garcia has already told Mayweather to put his 50-0 record on the line.

Khan gave his view in an interview with BoyleSports.

If it was even half of the Mayweather we saw in his last couple of proper fights [before Conor McGregor], he would still give Ryan Garcia problems. But why would Ryan risk that against an older guy where he knows he can get beat?

Khan said he would not take the fight if he were Garcia.

It doesn’t look good on the record. I wouldn’t entertain it.

He also questioned why Mayweather brought up Garcia’s name.

I think Mayweather is jumping on the bandwagon for a bit of PR because Ryan Garcia is a superstar in boxing now. I can see what Mayweather is doing.

Garcia holds the WBC welterweight title. He won it with a unanimous decision over Mario Barrios on February 21 in Las Vegas. He made his first defense with a second-round stoppage of Conor Benn on September 12.

Mayweather is a former five-division world champion. He retired 50-0 after beating McGregor in 2017 and has fought only exhibitions since.
