Ryan Garcia says Floyd Mayweather reached out about a fight, and the WBC welterweight champion has answered with a condition: no exhibition, a real professional bout with Mayweather’s 50-0 record on the line.
Garcia is coming off a September stoppage of Conor Benn and has been searching for a December opponent, claiming Isaac Cruz has ducked him three times.
Nothing is signed. No date, venue or terms have been reported, and World Boxing News described the approach as a sounding out with no guarantee a fight follows.
Mayweather turns 50 in February. His last professional fight was the 10th-round stoppage of Conor McGregor in August 2017 that took him to 50-0. His ring appearances since have been exhibitions, which leave the record untouched. He has also teased that his next appearance is locked in, and that it is not a Manny Pacquiao rematch.
Mayweather’s WBC champion emeritus status does not entitle him to challenge for the title, so any fight against Garcia for the belt would need WBC approval.
