Teofimo Lopez’s manager is promising a blockbuster announcement that he says will reshape the fighter’s career and surprise the boxing world. Keith Connolly told BoxingScene that “gigantic” news is coming within days, framing it as a positive move that could define where the former two-division champion lands next.
“I’m not going to say anything yet, but there’ll be big news probably next week dropping on Teofimo,” Connolly said. “I think it’s going to blow everybody away.”
The tease arrives at a turning point for Lopez. He has not fought since dropping his WBO junior welterweight title to Shakur Stevenson by unanimous decision in January, and he has since announced a move up to welterweight while weighing his promotional options.
Lopez had been promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank for his major world title bouts. With that chapter apparently closed, his next signing has become the central question hanging over his future.
Zuffa Boxing The Reported Frontrunner
Connolly suggested the announcement is tied to that very decision. “Let’s wait a week and a half. There’s going to be gigantic news,” he said. “I think it’ll blow people away, the move we’re making coming off the Shakur Stevenson fight, and it’s all positive things. It’s not a bad announcement. It’s an amazing announcement, and you’ll hear something next week.”
Reports have linked Lopez to Zuffa Boxing, where several of Connolly’s fighters have recently signed deals. Shakur Stevenson is also finalizing a promotional agreement with Zuffa Boxing, which would make Lopez landing in the same stable a notable development.
Connolly also revealed it is “possible” that Lopez ends up on the streaming service DAZN. That platform recently became a bigger player in the sport after Top Rank signed a landmark multi-year streaming deal with DAZN.
For now, the specifics remain under wraps. Connolly insists the wait will be worth it, telling fans the official word should arrive within the next week.
