Eddie Hearn says Dana White will not be involved in Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua, even after the fight’s official Netflix announcement named the UFC boss as one of its promoters.
Speaking to iFL TV in an interview shared on X by EverythingBoxing, Hearn went straight at the release.
“The f**kery involved in this fight, and we’ll come onto the fact that even Netflix put out a press release [saying] ‘the fight will be in conjunction with Dana White.’ There’s loads of battles to come on that because that ain’t happening either,” Hearn said.
Fury vs. Joshua was made official on Thursday for Friday, December 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, live on Netflix. The release states that Turki Alalshikh’s The Ring and White will collaborate to promote the event, and it includes a quote from White.
Hearn has held this line for weeks. He told ESPN in June that Joshua’s contract bars White, TKO and Zuffa from any promotional involvement. Asked at a media scrum in Dublin in early September whether the revised deal would allow White a role, he said no, and that otherwise there would be no fight.
White has said the opposite. Asked by iFL TV earlier this month who is promoting the fight, he answered, “It’ll be me.”
Hearn did win the location argument. Others had pushed for Madison Square Garden in New York, but Hearn said last week that Fury vs. Joshua would not take place in America because Joshua turned down more money to keep it in Britain.
No clarification from Sela or The Ring on the promoter discrepancy was publicly available at the time of writing. A press conference for the fight is scheduled for September 30.
