Teofimo Lopez says Devin Haney is the fighter most capable of handing Shakur Stevenson his first professional defeat, speaking from direct experience after losing to Stevenson by unanimous decision in January.
Lopez spoke to Daily Mail Sport.
Stevenson, 25-0, is the WBO super-lightweight champion and a four-division world titleholder. Haney is a three-division champion who claimed the WBO welterweight title by outpointing Brian Norman Jr. in November.
Talks between Stevenson and Haney have stalled over a proposed 144-pound catchweight that has not been agreed upon by both camps. Haney is also reported to be in discussions for a fight against Gervonta Davis.
Lopez’s pick adds a notable voice to the debate, given his firsthand experience of facing Stevenson. Roy Jones Jr. has previously offered his own view on who could beat Stevenson.
