The Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson weight argument has gone backwards.
Stevenson made his case on X, arguing that asking for a 144-pound catchweight is the moderate position given he holds a title at 140.
Funny thing is as a 135 pounder I could be petty and tell dude come to 140 since I’m a champion there and higher on the p4p list.
But Ian a goofy I want to be reasonable since they called me out.. I said let me find a comfortable spot for me and him. Something more realistic lol.
Bill Haney, who manages his son, was not moved.
I would never agree to that, and I suggest Deebo never go under 147 for nobody.
You right Shakur told us to fight Keyshawn at 147 after Deebo agreed to fight him at 144. I advise Deebo should make everyone fight him at 147.
The catchweight was live earlier this summer. Haney publicly accepted 144 in June, and Bill Haney said on Inside The Ring that they were waiting on a response from Stevenson that never came. Talks then moved aside when the WBO ordered Haney to defend the welterweight title against Keyshawn Davis, a fight Stevenson publicly encouraged him to take or vacate the belt for.
Davis withdrew last week, which reopened everything. Stevenson marked it by reposting Haney’s June catchweight offer with a fire emoji.
Stevenson’s precedent is Haney’s own record. Haney fought Jose Ramirez at a 144-pound catchweight two fights before winning the WBO welterweight title from Brian Norman Jr. Haney’s counter is that the belt he now holds carries a 147-pound limit.
Neither side has announced anything. No date, no weight, no deal.
