Ryan Garcia isn’t wasting any time capitalizing on his statement win, confirming that a rematch with Gervonta Davis is now officially being discussed.
Garcia retained his WBC welterweight title with a second-round knockout of Conor Benn this past weekend in Las Vegas, and while a unification bout with WBA champion Teofimo Lopez was floated immediately afterward, Davis remains at the top of Garcia’s wishlist.
Following a recent online exchange between the two, Garcia announced on social media that Davis and his advisor, Al Haymon, had reached out to his team about making the fight happen.
Garcia laid out his terms plainly: the fight has to happen at the 147-pound welterweight limit. “147 or nothing,” as he put it, despite Davis naturally competing at a much lower weight.
He’s also insisting Davis take a tune-up fight first to shake off ring rust, given Davis hasn’t fought in over a year and has been dealing with serious legal issues outside the ring.
The two first met in April 2023 at T-Mobile Arena in a fight staged at a 136-pound catchweight with a 10-pound rehydration clause favoring Davis. After Davis dropped Garcia in the second round, he closed the show in the seventh with a body shot that Garcia couldn’t beat the count on, the first loss of Garcia’s career.
Garcia has been vocal ever since about wanting a rematch on fairer terms, arguing the original weight restrictions left him drained.
With both camps now reportedly in contact, the biggest fight left on Garcia’s list may finally be moving from talk to negotiation.
