Dana White announced Deontay Wilder vs. Jai Opetaia as the co-main event of Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua on Dec. 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Deontay Wilder’s next fight is official, and Dana White is the one who announced it.

White announced on Instagram that Wilder will face undefeated cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia in the co-main event of Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua. The card is set for Dec. 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, and streams live on Netflix.

BOOOOOM!!!! Wilder vs Opetaia is OFFICIAL in Cardiff, Wales. Wilder has a 95% knockout rate and Opetaia is undefeated 31-0. #FuryJoshua is LIVE on December 11th on Netflix.

White followed up with a promo video.

Well, now the co-main event is officially set. Undefeated cruiserweight world champion Jai Opetaia is moving up to heavyweight for this fight to face former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

Wilder’s one of the most dangerous punchers in the sport, and Opetaia is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing, undefeated. And here’s an interesting fact for everybody: these two guys have a combined 67 knockouts.

The announcement confirms a deal that had been reported earlier in the week. Wilder had also floated a fight with WBA “regular” champion Murat Gassiev as another option.

White’s role in the announcement is notable. Eddie Hearn has repeatedly insisted that White isn’t involved in Fury vs. Joshua.
