Conor Benn’s manager, Keith Connolly, says the plan after the Ryan Garcia loss is 160lbs, with a Chris Eubank Jr trilogy pushed back until after another win.
Speaking on The Last Stand Podcast, Connolly said, “The plan will be 160lbs, it looks like.” A third fight with Eubank could come later, he said: “At some point, after we get a win, maybe we’ll do that Chris Eubank trilogy up at 168lbs, so there’s no excuses [about the] weight.”
Benn, 30, dropped to 147lbs earlier this month for the first time in more than four years and was stopped in the second round by WBC champion Ryan Garcia after being dropped by a right hand. Benn had said before the fight that making welterweight was torturous, and trainer Tony Sims told Sky Sports the Garcia fight was Benn’s last at welterweight “without a shadow of a doubt.”
Benn and Eubank split their two fights last year. Benn lost the first by unanimous decision at 160lbs with a 170lb rehydration limit, then won the rematch by a wider margin after twice flooring Eubank in round 12.
Eddie Hearn has said a trilogy would have to happen at 168lbs with no rehydration clause, and has argued that Benn has nowhere to go but a third Eubank fight.
