Eddie Hearn has set his terms for a third Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn fight.
Hearn promoted Benn for both of last year’s meetings. Benn has since left for Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing, and reports suggest Hearn could sign Eubank for a trilogy against his former fighter.
Speaking at a media scrum, Hearn said the weight rules would have to change if he is involved.
If I am on Team Eubank [for the trilogy], that [Benn getting the edge] is not happening on my watch. So, the fight [trilogy] happens at 168lbs with no rehydration clause and it is a fair playing field because it probably wasn’t a fair playing field [before]. I want to make sure my guy has the edge.
The weight was the story of both previous fights. Benn moved up to 160lbs, while Eubank stayed at middleweight under a clause that capped his rehydration at 10lbs. Eubank won the first meeting anyway. In the rematch seven months later, the cut looked far more costly, and he was dominated and nearly stopped.
Hearn has not hidden his feelings about how the Benn relationship ended, telling the same scrum that Benn stabbed him in the back.
Benn has said before that he would fight Eubank at super-middleweight. Whether he wants a three-division jump right now is another matter.
