Tyson Fury doesn’t think his old rival should still be fighting.
Deontay Wilder will face cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia in the co-main event of Fury vs. Anthony Joshua on Dec. 11 in Cardiff, after Dana White made it official. Fury, who beat Wilder twice, told Fight Hype it’s a sad situation.
It’s silly really, for Deontay’s part. He shouldn’t be in a ring, he should be nowhere near a ring, he should not be. It’s a dying shame that this man has to continue to fight when he’s shot to bits. He never should have fought again after I beat him the last time, that should’ve been the end of it. But, needs must.
Fury also pointed to Wilder’s split-decision win over Derek Chisora as proof the power is gone.
If you’re getting knocked out by people that you should’ve knocked out yourself then you know, him and (Derek) Chisora looked shockingly terrible when they fought, Chisora is like 145 years old and he was taking Wilder’s knockout power shots that aren’t there anymore… It’s a shame because if you’d have matched them two up five years ago, it wouldn’t have lasted one round.
Opetaia, who is moving up from cruiserweight, is widely favored despite the size disadvantage, thanks to his speed and technical skill. Chisora, meanwhile, has offered an inside look at Joshua’s camp ahead of the main event.
