Manny Pacquiao’s comeback tour could be about to hit a genuinely historic gear, with reports suggesting a Pacquiao-Shakur Stevenson showdown is being lined up as a co-main event alongside Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s long-awaited clash.
The 47-year-old Hall of Famer ended a four-year layoff last summer with a competitive draw against then-WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios.
A rematch with Floyd Mayweather was set up after that but has since been postponed over legal issues on Mayweather’s side, with no new date announced. Pacquiao’s team has indicated he still wants to fight again before the year is out.
According to Boxing Scene, a “double main event” pairing Pacquiao against Stevenson remains actively in the works even after the Fury-Joshua fight relocated to Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, with Netflix reportedly pushing hard to land the two-fight showcase for December 11.
Stevenson signed an exclusive multi-fight deal with Zuffa Boxing earlier this year but has yet to make his debut under the new promotion. He’s also been linked to a more conventional matchup against fellow super-lightweight titleholder Gary Antuanne Russell.
With an official Fury-Joshua announcement expected within days, boxing fans could be looking at not one but two generational showdowns on the same December card.
