Gervonta Davis is lining up a January-to-March 2027 comeback after nearly two years out, with former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr in talks for the return fight, according to World Boxing News.

Nothing is signed. WBN reported that Davis is targeting that early-2027 window, with Barclays Center in Brooklyn and Las Vegas among possible venues, and that two alternative opponents are also under consideration if a Kambosos deal does not land.

The stakes are clear for a fighter who has not boxed since his March 2025 majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr. Inactivity cost Davis his active WBA lightweight championship status, and Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi have moved into the vacant title picture.

Davis tells a fan: "I am, Kambosos"

WBN reported that after social-media sparring with Kambosos, Davis answered a fan who told him to stop tweeting and fight somebody by writing: “I am, Kambosos.”

Kambosos, responding on X to an account linked to Davis, confirmed discussions while pushing back on suggested terms.

Listen mate teams are talking, I fear none, just stop with the rehydration clauses ffs. A fights a fight!!! Dog fight, no problem.

Those exchanges were also covered by Boxing News and Boxing News 24. Neither fighter has announced an agreement, and Kambosos did not disclose a proposed weight or rehydration allowance.

Earlier this fall, Davis’ coach Kenny Ellis told FightHype he expected Tank back “at the beginning of the [new] year” after clearing personal matters, a timeline that aligns with the January-March 2027 window WBN now reports.

Kambosos last fought in June 2025, stopping out against Richardson Hitchins at 140 pounds. A deal would give Davis a recognizable former undisputed-era name for his first fight back, without locking him into the division’s current title picture. Until contracts are done, it remains talks, not a confirmed comeback opponent.
