Turki Alalshikh said his health has not been good for the last four months and asked Eddie Hearn, Frank Warren and Nick Khan to help him deliver his boxing wishlist, speaking at Wednesday’s launch press conference for Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua in London.
Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority and president of the Saudi Boxing Federation, made the comments at the event, which streamed live on the Netflix Sports YouTube channel. He began by reflecting on his own future.
In the end, I am going. Today, tomorrow. In the end, you are all making history. I don’t know in a couple of years [if] I will remember this moment or not. I have doubts about it now.
He then spoke about his health and turned to the promoters.
My health in the last 4 months is not good. I have a wishlist in boxing and I want to deliver it … Please Eddie [Hearn], Frank [Warren], Nick [Khan], everyone help me to do it.
Alalshikh has raised memory concerns before. In comments carried by The Ring earlier this year, he said he wanted to bring Dana White, Nick Khan, Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn together to make peace, adding that he feared “in 2028 or 2029 I’ll forget my name.”
The three names he called on at the press conference sit across boxing’s biggest dividing lines. Hearn promotes Joshua through Matchroom, Warren heads Queensberry, and Khan is part of the Zuffa Boxing leadership that Alalshikh co-founded with White. DAZN News reported that Hearn, Warren and Khan, along with DAZN CEO Shay Segev, took part in promoter peace talks Alalshikh convened this year.
Fury vs. Joshua takes place Friday, December 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, live on Netflix. The same press conference also produced Fury’s blast-out threat and his jokes at Joshua’s expense.
