The last man to share a ring with Tyson Fury came away impressed, and he wants to see how Anthony Joshua deals with what he felt.
Mariusz Wach lasted seven rounds with Fury on July 24 at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand, before his corner pulled him out on the stool. It was a non-televised card in front of roughly 1,500 people, and it gave Fury his first stoppage win since he halted Derek Chisora in December 2022.
Speaking to Seconds Out, the 46-year-old Pole described a fighter who is hard to solve.
Tyson is a very [unorthodox] fighter, he has long range and he is very dynamic. He is sharp and very strong.
I am waiting for his next fight with Joshua, I am very interested in this fight.
Wach was a strange sort of measuring stick. He challenged Wladimir Klitschko for the unified titles back in 2012 and has since lost eight of his last eleven, so nobody expected him to trouble Fury. He also outweighed him, which had never happened to Fury in his professional career, with Fury scaling 264 and a half pounds.
It served its purpose. Fury, who turns 38 today, had called for Joshua after outpointing Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April, his first fight back from a sixteen-month retirement. Joshua wanted a warm-up first and took Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, where he was dropped twice in the opening round before stopping Prenga in the second.
Both men have now done their half of the deal. The fight is targeted for November, though Eddie Hearn has threatened to pull Joshua out entirely if it is announced for Madison Square Garden without a renegotiated contract.
