Terence Crawford is picking Conor Benn to upset Ryan Garcia when the two meet for the WBC welterweight title, citing Benn’s size and power as the deciding factors.
Crawford spoke on Ariel Helwani’s YouTube channel.
I think that’s a good fight. I think, of course, Ryan’s got the experience, but Conor’s got the size and the power. I think it’s gonna be an interesting fight. I’mma go with Conor. I think he’s gonna upset him. I’m gonna go out there and pick him.
Garcia, 27, won the WBC welterweight title on February 21 by unanimous decision over Mario Barrios, winning by scores of 119-108, 120-107, and 118-109 with a first-round knockdown. The fight with Benn is targeted for Las Vegas on September 12 as a mandatory title defense.
Benn, 29, arrives having split two middleweight fights with Chris Eubank Jr. before outpointing Regis Prograis at a 150-pound catchweight in April. Crawford’s endorsement of Benn makes him the most credible outside voice yet to publicly pick against Garcia heading into the defense.
