Ryan Garcia says Terence Crawford is in Conor Benn’s gym, and he does not care.
Garcia defends the WBC welterweight title against Benn on September 12 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Speaking in a clip captured by The Ariel Helwani Show, he said Crawford has been working with Benn on the way in.
You notice what they all have in common? They all sound bitter and hateful. Nothing good comes out of that, ever. They are all obviously bitter. I don’t really care what they think, at the end of the day, they can’t fight for Conor Benn, at all. They can’t punch for him.
Then he got to Crawford by name.
I know that Crawford is at Conor Benn’s gym, trying to give him every technique that he can give him, that —- ain’t gonna help because I feel like I would beat your —-, so what are you gonna teach him?
Crawford retired in December as a three-division undisputed champion, vacating all four super middleweight belts after beating Canelo Alvarez. Garcia has named him as a fight he wants if he gets through Benn.
The rest of the list is at welterweight. Garcia is eyeing unifications with Teofimo Lopez, who holds the WBA title, or a rematch with WBO champion Devin Haney.
Garcia took the WBC belt from Mario Barrios in February, the first full world title of his career, after losing his opening fight at 147lbs to Rolando Romero.
Benn is going the other way. This is his first world title shot, and he has said he moves back up in weight straight after it, regardless of the result. He has not made the welterweight limit since stopping Chris van Heerden in April 2022, and has since fought as high as middleweight twice against Chris Eubank Jr.
