Jesse Rodriguez says the perfect path to a fight with Naoya Inoue would go through Inoue’s brother first, suggesting a bout with WBC bantamweight champion Takuma Inoue as a stepping stone to the mega-fight the boxing world is already anticipating.
Rodriguez spoke to Ring Magazine’s Manouk Akopyan on X ahead of his June 14 bantamweight title challenge against WBA champion Antonio Vargas.
I think that’s a perfect storyline to the fight. Beating his brother first — I think that’s like almost the perfect storyline to the Inoue fight, beating his brother first and then going and fighting the second brother.
Rodriguez quickly redirected to the task at hand before looking ahead.
I know when that Inoue fight does happen, then the fans are in for a great night of boxing. People are already talking about that fight so much that it’s inevitable at this point. And I feel like when the time comes, it’s going to be a great fight, probably one of the best fights in boxing history.
Rodriguez, 23-0 with 16 knockouts, is bidding to become a three-weight world champion Saturday night at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
