Jermall Charlo is out of his October 17 return after injuring himself in training camp, The Ring reported. He was set to face Koen Mazoudier in a 10-round super middleweight bout at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
Jose Armando Resendiz is replacing him on 10 days’ notice. The Ring called Resendiz “a strong replacement” and said Resendiz vs. Mazoudier “shapes up as an action fight between two aggressive 168-pounders.” Details of Charlo’s injury have not been disclosed.
Resendiz, 27, is 16-3 with 11 knockouts. He lost his WBA title to Jaime Munguia in May and won the interim belt by beating Caleb Plant in May 2025. Mazoudier, 31, is 16-4-1 with six knockouts and has won four straight, most recently beating Sam Beck on August 26.
Charlo, 36, is 34-0 with 23 knockouts and has fought just four times since 2020. His last bout was a sixth-round stoppage of Thomas LaManna in May 2025. The Mazoudier fight was first planned for July 26 in Sydney, but that date fell through over a visa issue.
Charlo has talked about wanting to take over 168. Resendiz’s title loss came in his May fight with Munguia.
The fight opens a DAZN on TNT tripleheader headlined by Sebastian Fundora vs. Hadribeaj for the WBC junior middleweight title, with Figueroa vs. Kameda as the co-feature. First bell is 8 p.m. ET on TNT, truTV and DAZN.
