Floyd Mayweather has named Keyshawn Davis among his personal top five active boxers, a significant co-sign for a fighter yet to claim a career-defining victory but who is positioned as the mandatory challenger to Devin Haney’s WBO welterweight title.
Mayweather gave his list during an appearance on Come And Talk 2 Me, leading with David Benavidez before running through the rest.
Benavidez is a hell of a fighter. We’ve also got Keyshawn Davis, and we’ve got Shakur, Devin. There’s also the little guy from Japan. Japan got some good fighters too.
Mayweather’s full top five: David Benavidez, Keyshawn Davis, Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney, Naoya Inoue.
Davis is the most surprising inclusion. The former lightweight champion has not yet produced the signature win that would cement his elite status, yet Mayweather placed him alongside four current world champions. Stevenson became a four-division champion by outpointing Teofimo Lopez in January. Haney and Benavidez are both three-weight world champions, while Inoue is a two-division undisputed titleholder.
Davis is next in line for Haney’s WBO welterweight title as the mandatory challenger, giving him an opportunity to validate Mayweather’s endorsement in the near future.
