Eddie Hearn Responds To Fury's Pull-Out Claim

Eddie Hearn says Anthony Joshua cannot pull out of the Tyson Fury fight, and the wording of his answer is worth noting.

Fury said this week that the fight looks unlikely to be signed and blamed Hearn for wanting more money. Hearn responded on social media.

Fury’s comments are all good fun but lack any substance, as usual. When he says “it looks like AJ has pulled out of the fight,” we can’t pull out of the fight because we have signed a contract.

We follow contracts, so we are just waiting on the date.

Waiting on the date is a narrower position than the one Hearn held a fortnight ago. He spent weeks insisting Joshua’s contract requires the fight to happen in the UK, said he was not bluffing about pulling out if New York were announced without agreement, and raised the possibility of legal action over the Madison Square Garden talks.

He has since presented an addendum to Sela, the Saudi company organizing and financing the event, listing what Joshua’s side needs in order to accept New York on November 20. That suggests a venue change is being negotiated rather than resisted.

The two men signed separate contracts, and the terms are not identical. BoxingScene reported the documents were out of sync on both date and location. Frank Warren has said Fury’s agreement contains no UK clause.

If it does land at Madison Square Garden, Joshua returns to the building where Andy Ruiz Jr. stopped him in the seventh round in 2019.
