Canelo Alvarez Has The Chance To Avenge A Loss

Dmitry Bivol has Canelo Alvarez on his short list.

The unified light heavyweight champion told Inside The Ring that a rematch with Alvarez is one of the three biggest fights out there for him.

I will tell you which fights are big for me now, I think that people will agree with this. This is [Artur] Beterbiev [trilogy], this is Canelo and this is [David] Benavidez. This is the three biggest fights I think for me.

Bivol handed Alvarez the second loss of his career in 2022, outpointing him at 175 pounds. Floyd Mayweather beat Alvarez by majority decision in 2013. Terence Crawford took Alvarez’s undisputed super middleweight titles in September 2025.

Alvarez is back in action on Oct. 31, when he challenges Christian Mbilli for the WBC super middleweight title. Mbilli was elevated to full champion in January after the WBC stripped Crawford, who retired in December.

Bivol has his own date first. He defends his three light heavyweight titles against Callum Smith on Dec. 12 in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Smith lost to Alvarez in 2020.

Bivol and Beterbiev split two fights in 2024 and 2025. Benavidez has moved up to cruiserweight, where he holds the WBA and WBO titles. He vacated his WBC light heavyweight title last week.
