Dana White has a blunt theory on where Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury should fight.
The answer to the question is you go wherever the money is. That’s the answer. Where’s the money? Go where the money is.
The Zuffa Boxing boss gave that answer to The Mac Life when asked about the long wait for a venue announcement. He also suggested the holdup has little to do with the promotion itself.
I think you can see publicly, lots of games being played, lots of ego involved and things like that.
White is not the man making the call. Joshua is promoted by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom, and the fight sits with Turki Alalshikh, who runs Riyadh Season and co-founded Zuffa Boxing with White under the TKO umbrella.
Hearn has said America is Alalshikh’s preferred destination, and New York is the name most often attached. A US card would put the fight in prime time stateside while keeping it watchable in Britain. A Wembley staging has also been floated, though that would mean a ring walk near 2am UK time to serve a global audience.
The rest is settled. Contracts are signed and the fight is set for November. Both men came through their tune-ups last weekend, Fury stopping Mariusz Wach in seven rounds in Thailand and Joshua climbing off the canvas twice before knocking out Kristian Prenga in the second in Saudi Arabia.
The venue is the last piece missing.
