Conor Benn says the scale beat him before Ryan Garcia did.
Garcia stopped Benn in the second round on Sept. 12 to retain the WBC welterweight title. A right hand put Benn down, and referee Thomas Taylor waved it off as Garcia poured on pressure. It was Garcia’s first title defense.
Benn told Seconds Out he isn’t dwelling on the loss.
If you go swimming, you get wet, you pay the price. No problem, you bounce back. It’s life, it happens.
He then pointed to the 147-pound limit. Benn fought Chris Eubank Jr. twice at a 160-pound catchweight in 2025. He then beat Regis Prograis at 150 pounds in April before dropping to 147 for Garcia.
I can’t fight at the weight, I can’t make the weight.
Benn has said he will move up to middleweight or super middleweight. That has fueled talk of a third fight with Eubank, possibly at 168 pounds in 2027. The two split their first two meetings.
Benn’s manager, Keith Connolly, has said the plan is to return at 160 and get a win before a possible Eubank trilogy at 168. Benn is expected to take some time off after four big fights in two years.
