Carl Froch is backing Tyson Fury to beat Anthony Joshua.
Fury and Joshua are scheduled to meet on Friday, December 11, at Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The WBA “Super” title is reportedly set to be on the line, which would make the winner a three-time world heavyweight champion.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Hall of Famer said the difference between the two comes down to one thing.
They’ve both been beat [but] only one of them’s been splattered, and you know who that was. So you know who I’m making [the] favourite.
Froch liked what he saw from Fury in his last outing.
I think Tyson Fury’s got the edge. He looked good against Makhmudov. He had a move around, did what he needed to do, got 12 rounds in the bank.
He was far less impressed with Joshua.
Anthony Joshua, he’s looked terrible. He got absolutely flattened by Daniel Dubois. He looked terrible against Prenga. Round one, he got hit with half an uppercut, went over, then Prenga didn’t throw a punch and he won the fight.
But it’s going to be difficult for him to beat Tyson Fury.
Fury, 38, beat Arslanbek Makhmudov by unanimous decision at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April. He followed that with a seventh-round stoppage of Mariusz Wach in Thailand.
Joshua, 36, was knocked out by Dubois in the fifth round in September 2024. He stopped Jake Paul in the sixth round last December, then survived two knockdowns to finish Kristian Prenga in the second round in July.
The fight has been thrown into doubt since Froch made his prediction. A dispute over Dana White’s role in promoting the event has put the December 11 date at risk.
