Anthony Joshua’s showdown with Tyson Fury finally has a confirmed date and venue that is December 11 in Cardiff. Now his promoter has revealed a significant addition to his training camp.
Joshua has worked with Team Usyk for his last two fights, with Iegor Golub serving as lead trainer for back-to-back knockout wins over Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga.
Both results came with some criticism attached, given how long it took to finish Paul and the fact that the largely unknown Prenga dropped Joshua twice before Joshua turned the fight around.
Speaking in a clip captured by Pro Boxing Fans, promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that Ben Davison, who has previously trained both Fury and Joshua will be part of Joshua’s camp for the fight.
Hearn praised Davison as one of the best trainers in the world and noted that Joshua respects him even during stretches when Davison wasn’t his lead trainer but was still working alongside him strategically, adding that Davison’s deep familiarity with Fury specifically makes him a valuable asset heading into this fight.
Even when Ben wasn’t his principal trainer – he was just working with him – strategically, talking all of the time, I think he respects Ben a lot. Obviously, there is probably a feeling that Ben Davison knows Tyson Fury extremely well.
“For me, I think that he is one of the best trainers in the world. I don’t know AJ’s final decision as to where he is going to locate his training camp but Ben Davison will definitely be involved in that camp and in that process.
Hearn said Joshua’s final training base location hasn’t been settled, but confirmed Davison will be involved regardless. It’s not yet clear whether Davison will step back in as lead trainer ahead of Golub or work alongside him as part of a broader coaching team.
